DISENGAGE began when a word got stuck in my head: withdrawal. The act of withdrawing involves a distancing of one's self from the external environment, a slippage of one's self inward. This tendency to draw back is one that I myself have acquired over the years, manifesting itself through a habit of making myself small whenever I feel particularly anxious or vulnerable. DISENGAGE seeks to translate these uncomfortable sentiments in visual form.
